document Why are we eliminating all live GroupWise email older than 2 years?
There a few reasons for this change. One is the sheer amount of data and its continual growth. Storage is very expensive and the live email system holds multiple Terabytes of data. Large email database files also are difficult to manage and can be problematic in GroupWise.

At times, employees need to search for old messages. Owens also needs to keep email records for legal purposes, if requested. This also satisfies requirements by HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley as they pertain to records retention.
